Measuring your marketing activities may seem time-consuming but if you want to improve your future marketing strategy and plans, then you actually need to think about this when you set your objectives originally. Then you will know how and what you are measuring to learn for the future.
With all of our clients, we measure and report monthly on all the marketing activities, from social media to PR, so that we can learn and adapt our future plans to be more effective.
Here we take you through some measurements specifically for your social media to give you an idea of what you can look at further. There are plenty of FREE tools out there that we would highly recommend such as Facebook Insights, Twitter Analytics and Instagram Insights.
There’s a long list of criteria to measure with from:
- reach
- impressions
- likes/reactions
- retweets/shares
- comments
- page views etc.
Also, take a look at the best times to post for your followers and insights about your specific audience. From this, you can schedule your posts for specific times that will get a greater reach. Your audience can also be identified in terms of gender, age and location allowing you to have a greater understanding of who your audience is to tailor your messaging.
TOP TIP: Set aside some time once a month to look at your insights, before writing any more posts.
Going through your insights, it may surprise you the type of posts that work and those that don’t get any engagement. It’s important not to take this personally, but to give the audience more of what they want and maybe trial some other style of posts to see if they work. Maybe change your photography style, tone of voice or even post times but don’t forget to measure these again to look for improvements.
